blank space....

The top frame header of the console seems to have an awful lot of wasted space. It could be made much more compact. Is there a reason for this? Perhaps move the console, options, log etc choices at the top into a pulldown (pancake stack type icon). The list of monitors has filtering info at the top,...

Audio

I have a new ZM setup on Ubuntu 18.04, and its running nicely. One of the cameras in this install (Amcrest, not certain of model, but its new) supports audio (built-in mic and port for ext speaker & mic), and the system owner is asking about how to hear and/or send audio. Owner has a elderly father ...

Re: /dev/shm

Also thought this is partially covered in some zoneminder docs. Well, it kinda is, here . My real question is, what should I shoot for as far as a usual ZM displayed percentage? When I open a couple of monitors, I'm seeing 88%-92%...the documentation doesnt say anything about what that actual consu...

/dev/shm

How big should /dev/shm be? Under normal circumstances, how full should it be? Mine seems to run around 72%, but when I start viewing monitors live, it tends to grow, 88% or more. Its actually hit 100% recently, which of course caused all sorts of unpleasantness. It also did not clear itself upon st...

Re: Amcrest Control Type not available

The control scripts that show up in the control types list are located in (on my Ubuntu 16.04 server) the following directory: /usr/share/perl5/ZoneMinder/Control/ Placing the scripts there, restarting ZM, on my install will cause the script to show up in the list to select from. Where these scripts...

Re: upgrade instructions

Apologies, attention has been elsewhere of late. I believe that you have to ensure that the correct repo is linked and then run the upgrade. The instructions are in the documentation, here . Essentially, its a simple process to add the latest repository with a sudo add-apt-repository ppa:iconnor/zon...

Re: Camera backdoor

There's numerous ways to skin this cat. My ZM server has two NICs (a separate NIC is about $20 or so now, you can even use a USB-type). The backside NIC is on a dumb switch (Linksys etc, about $50) with all the cameras. Mine are all POE, so the UPS running the ZM box is also powering all the cameras...

Re: Zoneminder and Camera on same VLAN or separate VLAN?

I didnt use VLAN, I used a dumb switch (hub) and a second NIC on the ZM box. With no packet forwarding between the NICs on the server, and the server doling out DHCP to the backside NIC (so I can add a new camera and have it work without fiddling with addresses) it works well. None of the cameras ar...

Amcrest API has lots of new features - people detection?

https://support.amcrest.com/hc/en-us/articles/360001080552-Amcrest-HTTP-API-SDK 2020 version has lots of interesting built-in functionality for counting people and various other cool stuff. My current Amcrest cameras don't support this, but if it can be used along with ZM to detect presence of peopl...

Re: Very pleased with ZM! But questions...

The zmninja appimage belongs on the target machine, not the ZM server right? ZMNinja is a smartphone app. Install it on your phone, then enter the credentials for access to the ZM server. 2. I'm a a loss for how to get PTZ going. Is there a Wiki or applet that I need? Its quite fidley because each ...
